Waste workers in Udupi

Global standards.
Local Impact.

Delivering global standard results that are relevant and impactful locally.

rePurpose Global impact frameworks and processes lay the foundations for a new and better plastic waste industry.

As pioneers of a new circular economy, we are driving global standard impact that is good for the environment, for people, and for communities. All while being cognizant of the cultural and geographical context and implementing solutions with a real chance of scalability and success.

The BASE Framework: Building a strong foundation for impact

The BASE Framework is our leading impact creation process that is the strong foundation for each rePurpose Global plastic recovery impact project. This framework ensures that our interventions in each geography create additional, impactful and verifiable outcomes.

B
Baseline

Establish scientific baselines for the plastic recovery and recycling rates; along with building cultural and geography related contextual understanding.

A
Additionality

Design a bespoke solution with additionality model that will create environmental outcomes over and above those baselines.

S
Solution

Day-to-day action to collect and recover plastic waste, run in full alignment with our industry-leading protocols and empower waste workers.

E
Evaluation

Collect, verify, quality assure, and audit data - using reTrace technology.

Impact Creation Playbooks

We have pioneered global standards and processes that deliver ethical, transparent and verifiable impact across all of our projects.

These are a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that our impact projects follow with support from the rePurpose Global team on aspects like upskilling of the project teams, implementing new systems on ground and conducting strong audits to ensure compliance.

Verified Plastic Recovery Protocol:

A unit of Verified Plastic Recovery (VPR) is a non-transferable certificate representing the collection and most ethical processing of 1 kilogram of plastic waste. Our ground-breaking VPR protocol ensures that plastic waste recovered is ethically sourced and tracked end-to-end.

Impact Code

A first-of-its-kind standard, ensuring that plastic recovery projects maximize environmental and socio-economic impact. The Impact Code is applicable to all rePurpose Global plastic recovery projects and makes sure that waste workers and communities are at the heart of all impact-delivered.

Outcomes Based Waste Prevention

Our impact is based on an innovative financial mechanism that incentivizes the reduction of plastic waste and aims to bridge the funding gap and accelerate progress towards Treaty goals.

 The OBWP Solution

We connect funding to proven solutions.

Outcomes-Based Waste Prevention (OBWP) model ensures that finance is directly linked to measurable outcomes, creating a clear incentive for success.

A model built for accountability, efficiency, and most importantly—lasting impact.

The Problem

All the solutions to solve plastic pollution exist, but are chronically underfunded.

The total investment needed to effectively end ocean plastic by 2040 is $5.2 trillion.

This seems daunting, but represents just 0.3% of global GDP.

Earth Action’s Outcomes Based Waste Prevention report (in partnership with GreenBlue, Upstream and rePurpose Global) digs deeper into the potential of this mechanism in mobilizing crucial capital in waste management.
