Food packaging has more sanitation requirements than basic consumer goods and individually packaged goods present particular packaging challenges when considering sustainability. In the US, an estimated 6 billion hard-to-recycle snack wrappers are disposed of each year.

MadeGood, was established with a mission to combat this statistic, providing snack options to consumers that support solving the waste crisis, rather than contributing to it. The brand focuses on making products that are as good for the planet as they are for our bodies.

“Globally, less than 9% of plastic is responsibly recycled. The rest, a shocking 91%, ends up in landfills and our oceans. Balancing the environmental impact of plastics with the necessity to package and protect our MadeGood products is a challenge we take seriously.” - Taylor Stanley, MadeGood’s Impact Strategy Manager

Riverside Natural Foods, the parent company of MadeGood, Cookie Pal, Good to Go and other brands, partnered with rePurpose Global to take immediate action towards their sustainability goals. To keep their commitment to the environment at the forefront of their brand in spite of these headwinds, MadeGood chose to partner with rePurpose Global to take charge of their plastic footprint.

Impact Focused Approach

With rePurpose Global, MadeGood supports impact projects that divert as much plastic from nature as their product lines contribute every year. The amount of plastic they remove takes into account their product use, packaging, and supply chain contributions.

Since 2021, with rePurpose Global’s support, MadeGood has been Certified Plastic Neutral. MadeGood’s partnership with rePurpose funds impact projects that are tackling the plastic waste crisis across India, with sites in Aurangabad, the coastal areas of Chennai, and Goa.

Creating an Impact with rePurpose Global: The Plastic Reality Project | MadeGood

rePurpose Global’s impact projects work to solve plastic pollution in global hotspots, funding self-sustaining infrastructures and setting up reliable waste collection services, to assure brands like MadeGood’s impact lasts. Because they chose to partner with rePurpose, MadeGood has not only recovered 4,083,884 pounds (as of November 2024) of plastic, but also created jobs for our waste warriors, improving working conditions and equity in the waste management industry.

In 2022 alone, MadeGood supported 310+ workers, empowering them with increased incomes and dignified workplaces. 43,000 households in these same communities now have access to formal waste management for the very first time.

Partnership Results

Thanks to its partnership with rePurpose Global, MadeGood is viewed as an industry leader for sustainability, going beyond marketing claims and really baking it into their brand identity.

In addition to the 4 million+ pounds of plastic they have recovered, they have been selected for speaking opportunities, workshops and panels at leading events, leveraging their rePurpose Global partnership to secure a plenary session at the Sustainable Brands conference, attended by 1,700 industry leaders.

They are a certified B-Corp and have solidified their products as a household name. rePurpose supported the creation of messaging that has helped MadeGood differentiate their brand at trade shows, helping them stand out amongst the growing number of health-food brands. Their lines are now available at Whole Foods and they’ve added the rePurpose Global Plastic Neutral Certification to more of their product lines.

The market for healthy, eco-friendly consumables has exploded over the past several years and MadeGood is leading the charge, assuring good for you products are also good for the planet.
