8. E (ctd) - Quality assurance and verification

In the last article we talked about the use of technology to capture all of the impact evidence as part of the ‘E’ for Evaluation, but that is not the end of the quality assurance and verification process.

Accountability and transparency are imperative in waste management. rePurpose Global works to the highest standards in the industry, and our Audit and Assurance Protocol (AAP) provides a robust framework for impact verification. The AAP includes adherence to rePurpose Global's Verified Plastic Recovery Protocol (VPRP) and Impact Code (IC). It also draws from ISO 19011, ISEAL’s Codes of Good Practice, and PREVENT Waste Alliance’s Guidelines.

The AAP is globally compliant, and grounded in eight principles including Integrity, Rigor, Independence, and Transparency. The APP is operationalized through a three-tiered approach:

  1. First Level: Tech-driven checks conducted on a weekly to monthly basis by the Impact team.
  2. Second Level: Mandatory Internal Audits, combining on-site and off-site assessments conducted bi-annually by the Impact Team.
  3. Third Level: Bi-annual Third-party audits of the documentations and on-site evaluation conducted by independent firms, ensuring impartial evaluation.Rule-based auditing measures such as mandatory audits, periodicity, and auditor rotation are applied.

This endeavor by rePurpose is a unique alignment between local waste management practices with global standards.

For the AAP to succeed, capacity building is done to empower internal and external auditors to understand the protocol, the impact creation process, and to be able to verify impact impartially. With rePurpose Global’s Verified Plastic Recovery subject to the AAP, this ultimately means that both rePurpose, and supporters funding plastic recovery, can be confident in making impact claims.
