The Empowering Consumers for Green Transition Directive, also known as ECGT or EmpCo, is a European directive that strengthens rules for environmental claims and sustainability labels across EU Member States.
It is designed to help prevent greenwashing by requiring businesses to communicate environmental claims clearly, accurately, and with reliable supporting evidence.
This means, any sustainable labels used by businesses needs to be:
An independent, accredited body checks the claim
The terms behind your label must be publicly available
The scheme should be shaped by expert and stakeholder input
The scheme needs clear procedures for how enforcement works
The label has to rest on a legitimate certification scheme or a public authority
Through the rePurpose Verified Plastic Recovery Program, businesses can contribute financially to rePurpose-approved impact projects that fund plastic recovery.
rePurpose certification may apply at the company level or the product level, depending on the certified scope. The mark used must match the approved certification scope and may only be used where rePurpose has granted certification and approved the claim use.
Using a certification mark requires rePurpose certification and an independent conformity assessment, carried out by BSI Group or another approved verification body that is legally separate, competent, and independent of both rePurpose and the certified brand.
You choose what to fund. We handle the compliance.
Pick the plastic recovery program that aligns best with your business.
Your contribution puts recovery work into motion on the ground
rePurpose verifies the data. An independent third party audits the impact.
Receive your certification, and tell your customers what it stands for.
An independent conformity assessment is an objective evaluation by a third party organization to prove that rePurpose certifications meets legal rules or quality standards.
To meet the ECGT Directive requirements, we have selected BSI Group to conduct the Independent conformity assessment. BSI Group is a national standards body and certification organisation, operating independently of rePurpose and of the brands being certified. They are an approved verification body that is legally separate from, competent, and independent of both rePurpose and the certified brand.
